I think people mostly go to art fairs to feel cultured and then talk about how they'd just *love* that painting if it went nicely with their couch.

I think it's because the economy is so bad right now, that people don't have the money for non-essentials. Art is a luxury item, something people buy with extra money. If there's no extra money, people can only window-shop and wish for better times. :(

Sorry that you didn't sell anything. :(

Poop! Art is a luxury item, but...I have noticed this for years at Christmas sales. It's like, what the heck people! This isn't dollar store crap, dammit! :-)

I pitched my prices with my big peices at £400 (because I wanted to attract people over!) and I put many small originals on the table for £10 each. Original signed art works, in a border , and no miserable arsehole bought one. I know a bargain when I see it, Id have bought my stuff!

Yeah, I would definitely have bought a 10 pound original from you!

It occurred to me that you should seek out the people who're both vain and wealthy.

Maybe send some free works to a couple key people who win dog and horse shows, respectively. Then they could rave to their friends who feel they need to out-do them.

I dunno your side of the pond but art here is usually vastly overpriced. I wouldn't mind paying $2-300 for a great painting, but nobody sells them for that price. I've seen absolute crap (usually po-mo) in the $1000 range.
