If you are republican and sane, then I'm sorry for the harshality of my words. I'm afraid, however, that your party might not be what you think it is

Well at least 52 percent of the population isn't racist! =D Of course, a high number of the 48% isn't likely to be racist, either. Unfortunately there are still pockets of stupidity. And, according to more ballot box blunders, people are more into oppressing people who are gay now than blacks. Also a shame. Apparently tolerance is harder to come by than I had ever imagined ten years ago.
Yay for that. I know most people aren't aggressively racist, but those are the ones who seem to be very vocal in this area. I actually intended to mention the gay issue, but forgot. I've heard people who seem to think that keeping gay people from getting married is the most important political issue in the country. I was going to tie it in with the "christians who don't want other people to be happy" theme.
Like you say, it's just pockets of stupidity that are proud of thier own ignorance.
Unfortunately, I've moved into bigger pockets each time I go somewhere new in this state. If the racists weren't actually outnumbered by those whom they hate, I'm sure we'd have more vocal ones. Yes, it is sad that the cheek turners always come out firing their rocks. I had a conversation about this at work today, which is always nice. It's just depressing that everyone looking into other people's lives instead of the books on their shelves. Everyone gets to pick and choose which parts of their religion they follow. It's just a shame that an act is supposedly condemned in two places in a rather long novel and the thousands of parts which preach acceptance are put on the back burner. Sometimes I can't help but hope that their is a proper afterlife because justice is such a beautiful concept.
You're not helping. Robeson County is one of the poorest, most crime-ridden Counties in the State. You've got me being all proper with my upper-case words.
It's interesting that the Raleigh-Durham area, which is the educational center of the state, and also the most wealthy area of the state, is solidly Blue.
It seems that Obama did well with the poor and the professional rich.
