My life is very good. I'm happy in more ways then I ever thought I would be. Very few flies get in my ointment these days. That's why I have energy to write rants like this one

Now that I've been bussing for a couple of weeks, I have found it a very relaxing way to get to and from work. It's nice to read, or just listen to my mp3 or radio and not have to worry about traffic.
Of course, it helps that I have to be at work "sometime before 1pm" and I can go home when I finish my day of work.
And actually having a car for those days where I need to go to the store on the way to/from work, or if I just don't want to deal with the weather, I think, results in the ultimate freedom.
As for the CO, I've done far better than switching to public transit: I have not brought any more consumers onto this planet. I could be driving 60 miles a day round trip in a Hummer and STILL produce less CO/garbage than having 2.5 kids.
Now, I agree with them completely, within their own life style. What I usually point out to them is that their carless lifestyle is really only suited to 20 something, childless, urban dwellers that live close to work, only work days, and never have to change their schedule on a moment's notice.
I'd love to be car-less, but with my bad hip, I often need a car just to get things like groceries. I also do not have very stable employment, when I do, so I need to be able to drive to different park & rides, as Metro is not a seamless transit system. Now, I'd like to live downtown, and have a job downtown, and live and work near Zipcar parking placesl. Then maybe I could live careless, as I could get a Zipcar when I really needed one.
