Cats to the Left of Me, Cats to the Right of Me

Little cat appears to have forgiven me. Tuesday evening after she came home she was staggering around the house, making sure everything was as she had left it, even though she was obviously so groggy she could barely keep her eyes open.

Later in the evening I lost track of her. Looked all over the upstairs, couldn't find her, figured she'd ( Read more... )

Maisy has been kind of withdrawn too lately. She appears to be OK physically, she just doesn't want to associate with me or Knack. I'm hoping it's just a temporary mood for both her and PB.

When cats get older they tend to become a little anti-social. Mostly because they just don't want to be bothered with the activity of the household in general, they just want to sleep and dream dreams of youth, periodically surfacing to take a bath, go say hi to the people, make a pit stop, maybe have a crunch and a drink, then go back to sleep ( ... )

For the last year that my old cat Truman was alive (he died at 19 last year) I had him on what any vet would probably consider to be the worst diet possible, but he'd eat it and he did put on weight.
Two times a day he got the yolk from a hard boiled egg mashed up with just enough unsweetened condensed milk to make it semi-liquid and microwaved for 15 seconds to make it just above room temp.
Like I said, it was probably horrible for him, but he loved it and I figured that at 19 years old, he'd earned a slightly decadent diet.

Lorri nails it.

PB is upset that his routine isn't his anymore - he has to *share*.

As you already know, owning a cat or two, sharing isn't high on their list of things to do.

Give some xtra tention (tension?) and don't sweat the rest.

You forget that while you are sleeping, they are socializing.

When my old kitty started to be more fussy about what she ate, sometimes human baby food in beef, chicken, or lamb flavors would work. It wasn't ideal for her nutritionally, but when it was a choice between no food at all or baby food, I would go for the calories. Of course I had to hand-feed it, but that was because she was a spoiled rotten litte princess. For a time I could also grind up some of her meds in the baby food as well.

Yeah, Bunny got baby food too sometimes, but he didn't much care for it. Like Truman's person said, when they get that old, to hell with "proper diet". Every day is a gift, and if Bunny had wanted filet mignon run through the blender with a little milk and 'waved to body temperature, then by God that's what he would have gotten!
