[Ed is out in the dark, hanging his and Winry's laundry on the line. Den is lying out there keeping watch. He shivers in the chill of a nice spring night.]
[Winry has found it hard to sleep, despite this being her room. It felt strange being here, after so long. Her bed didn't seem like it was on the right wall. She missed the computer Mr. Crocker had given her - she'd had to leave it behind when Naoto didn't remember them, and her Jack Frost that Ed had won her at the Obon Festival.
And Den...Den usually slept on the floor of her room when she was here. Den wasn't in the room, and that was even weirder for Winry. She didn't know why she thought her dog would have kept up that habit without her being here.
Getting out of her bed, Winry pushed open the sliding glass door and walked out onto the balcony. The spring night made her shiver, and rub her hands over her upper arms. Leaning over the railing, Winry stared off into the distance, hearing a faint train whistle, not seeing Den or Ed below, with laundry.]
[The train whistle caught Ed's attention and he sucked in a breath. He had completely forgotten Risembool's train schedule - how lame was that?
He climbed up a tree and crouched on a branch in the darkness. From there he could see the train coming into the lit platform. One person got off the train and then it left the way it came. No uniform - safety.
Ed exhaled and leaned against the trunk, twitching with the evidence of being high strung.]
[Winry leans back in shock at the sight of someone scaling the tree, until she realizes she knows that person in the tree, and the dog sitting at the base of it, staring up at him.]
[Winry opens her mouth and snaps it shut again. Ed's in a mood, and in a tree, and she's not sure if there's anything she can do about it except for flinging a wrench at him. And with this lighting, she'd probably hit the tree, the wrench would fall and hit Den on the head and Winry didn't want to hurt her dog. Ed's skull is so hard, he doesn't seem to notice beyond an initial bump and possibly some blood, and then he is okay. Winry doesn't think Den is that sturdy.]
