Transmutation Interlude 12 - RL Hospital Log PPTH

Jul 02, 2010 23:25

Edward started off asleep. He's unconscious, on his back, an IV draining into his arm. He's wearing blue hospital scrubs because his clothes are trashed. On the table beside his bed, where there is a water pitcher and a glass for him, as well as a remote, are his personal effects. One state alchemist watch, a set of six earrings and a small repair ( Read more... )

Azula had been hanging around the hospital for much of the day. Most of the time she stayed in the lobby or office areas-- she wasn't really supposed to be near the patient rooms without reason or permission, but occasionally she broke that rule, and today was no exception.

She didn't have any particular reason for it, really. She walked leisurely down the halls of the ICU (in her Earth clothes, so as not to be overly conspicuous), glancing into the rooms when the doors were open. She likely would have been kicked out by now, she mused, if most of the people who worked at the hospital didn't at least vaguely recognize her. They probably assumed that she had permission from their Dean of Medicine. Azula liked that. She could go practically anywhere that she wanted.

Passing by a room, she stopped suddenly, frowning. There was something familiar about the boy lying in the bed inside. In fact, she was almost certain that she recognized him from the community.

"Who are you?" she demanded.

Edward had been staring at the ceiling, counting the tiles (he was up to 21) when Azula's voice interrupted his thoughts. He didn't think he knew her, at least at first. His brain was still muddled.

"Could ask the same." Ed said, his tone still harsh with difficult breathing. "I'm Ed Elric."

That name sounded familiar too, but only vaguely. She didn't even think she'd ever spoken to him before.

"Why are you here?"

"I got hurt..." Ed sucked in a harsh breath. "And I was brought here." He had a mask, but he'd pulled it down, particularly because if he could let the pain kick in, he'd maybe start lifting the fog of the medication. "Mello brought me."

Sleeping in a hospital waiting room was difficult at best. Winry remembered how she'd strained her neck and back, so many times when she was younger, falling asleep while taking care of Ed after both his surgeries. She'd wake up when Ed stirred, half stretched across his bed, nose in his hair or getting smacked by his hand, butt still planted on her stool. Still, if Ed needed her, she was here.

A nurse had given Winry a concerned look at finding her drowsing in one of the uncomfortable chairs, but let her know she could see Ed, if she wanted. Winry had promptly gotten up, finger combed her hair, and went to Ed's room. The nurse had said he was 'awake and cranky', which sounded about right. Pushing open the door, Winry stepped inside. "Good morning!"

"What's good about it?" Ed muttered, grumpily, coughing a little. The drugs were irritating him and he had his right hand hovering over his left as he tried to decide if attempting to take out the IV was going to work. He didn't want it in him, but he didn't want to touch it either.

"Well, for one thing, you're alive." Winry batted his hand away from the IV. "Don't make me change that."

"Still can't feel much except that...I know it's there." Edward whined a little and hovered his hand over it again, it wouldn't be hard to pull it out, but he'd have to touch the needle. Ew.

A suit of armor bearing the coat of arms of the State Alchemists entered the room.

It then clamshelled open, and Joshua stepped out, his face... see also my icon.

"Dios Dulce, Santa Maria, please please tell me you'll be okay," he chokes out.

"Josh." Edward rasped with a small smile. "Hey. Nice to see you." He has difficulty speaking and breathing is harsh, but he's alive and doing okay.

Josh looks him over, and hears words from Derek: Lacerations, contusions, a lot of other words ending in ions and that mean trouble. Loss of blood. Labored breathing. Not to mention the toll on the spirit...

He gulps.

"You look like shit," he says. "But 's better than looking like meat, am I right?"

Edward laughed which made him cough but it was worth.

"You're right." He smiled cheerfully. "Thanks, I feel nothing and they won't lower my meds."

Naoto hurried over as soon as school let out. She'd had a difficult time concentrating on her studies, and she was forced to remind herself that Edward was going to be all right. Letting him see her worry would do little good. It was vitally important to keep his spirits up.

She was wearing the boy's uniform, not having time to change into casual clothes. In her hands was a small vase with some daffodils, freshly cut from her garden.

She put on a big smile. "Hello, Ed. How are you feeling?"

"Better then yesterday." Edward smiled a little, offering a weak little wave.

"Winry and Josh came in here...oh and Azula." He smiled a bit. Visitors were good for keeping him entertained.

She blinked. "Azula? Really?" Not that is should have surprised her. She was Dr. Cuddy's adoptive daughter of sorts, and this was the hospital where she was employed...

Naoto set the vase down on the table, arranging the various other affects to make room. She pulled up a chair and sat down.

"You do look better. Less pale. Your voice sounds stronger, as well." She smiled in return. "You're probably terribly bored, stuck in bed like this."

"Still hard to breathe but I...I get it." Ed said, frowning a little.

"Yeah a little. Still too much sleeping. Counted thirty-seven ceiling tiles." Edward coughed a bit and shook his head. "I tried to sit up. I can't. I get it. Win read me my chart."

Unlike other people, Mello didn't really care about visiting hours. He dropped by whenever he had the time, between working and preparing to relocate that wasn't terribly often. So it's completely plausible to assume that Ed might wake up from a short nap to find Mello asleep in a chair next to the bed.

He did wake up from one of his naps, coughing roughly. He frowned a little, trying to clear the fog out of his mind. He was trying to place what didn't feel right.

Edward glimpsed Mello, but made no move to wake him. He was feeling woozier. Either the medication was too strong, which was a possibility and getting to him or his fever had gone up, also a possibility. He sighed. He hated this. All this lying still, it was so boring.

Mello woke with a start at the coughing.

"Oh... hey Ed. Must've fallen asleep myself, huh." he stifled a yawn and ran a gloved hand over his face. "How're you feeling?"

"I...I don't know." Edward said thoughtfully, frowning just a little. "Didn't mean to wake you. You should rest."
