Musings on LJ...on LJ, oh how meta am I

This Dreamwidth thing is turning into an interesting conundrum.... It was a critical mass of friends on LJ that drew me to using this site as my blogspace (such as it is). Many of that critical mass are fic writers who are now migrating to Dreamwidth for perfectly good reasons. After the fallout of this exodus, presumably I won't be able to read ( Read more... )

Even if all the fic-writers leave (and I know from kassrachel's comment above that integration is possible), I will probably stay - because I have other friends here that I want to keep in touch with. I may just hit the refresh button fewer times per day, knowing that there isn't likely to be as much good content..... :(

Facebook is fine, but it isn't as easy to control who sees what, and I'm friends there with people I work with, and vague acquaintances, and stuff - and I don't feel comfortable pouring out my heart and soul in front of some of those people the way I might on LJ behind a friendslock.

Good point--we didn't mention our trip to Boston this weekend on FB for our non-LJ friends to see simply because it's so hard to control the flow of information over there.

I haven't decided whether I'll flee to DW: ordinarily I would stay where I am (because I'm a creature of habit), but how LJ fucks fannish folks offends (ooh, lovely alliteration) even though I myself am not of the fannish ilk. If I do flee, it'll be great for someone to show me how to integrate because the interwebs force does not flow strong in this one.

I'm not one of the cool kids, so I don't know anything about Dreamwidth (yet), but I'll say this against Facebook ( ... )

Hypocrit that I am, I rarely take the time to update LJ these days because I am so busy (and FB is so quick I sometimes do update there), but I massively prefer to read people's updates on LJ > FB. So while the folks I know on LJ are a small and semi-overlapping set with FB, I hope they don't leave!

I've found that there's been a substantial migration over to facebook, and it's now where I spend a majority of time. But yes, lj is still for more personal, angsty stuff.
