I still remember our first cycle, shared by three of us. A shiny blue coloured thing it was. Forget the name now. The second cycle was a 5 speed BSA.

I guess you are aware that you can carry bikes on BART for no extra charge.
A Hybrid is best, esp if you want to take the bus to one of the numerous parks around Santa Clara country, and then go up the biking trails!

Walking is green anyway-no carbon footprint etc. You mentioned in your post, 'biking is greener' hence the question.

You either use the public transport or walk... Or you can try a greener option, which is you can Bike
Trying a greener option-biking would indicate that it is greener than walking, yes?
