I breathed for you
In hopes that you’d live

I fought my first true battle against death
and I tried my hardest...

I thought that I was only going to watch a simple procedure
but events un-known to me came to be

Someone’s heart had stopped beating
their life was draining away with each passing second

I made my way to the head of the bed
not stepping
