Insurance

Hi all. Hope you're having a lovely long weekend. I am using my free time to think about auto insurance.

What companies do you all use? Do you like them? What's your coverage?

Am doing some price comparison, and so far Geico wins. By a lot. Anyone heard any horror stories about them?

Thanks!

I'm with them. No complaints so far.

We've got Geico. They've been really awesome. When A. got rear-ended in Racine and he needed to get the car inspected in order to get it fixed, it was a very simple process. They did all of the rest of the work for the other insurance company to pay up. Their rates are reasonable. Nothing but good things about them from us.

I had them for a while, and they were fine. I got rid of them because they only do auto insurance and not homeowner's or renter's.

Do you have renter's insurance? If not, I'd seriously consider it. It's not that expensive, and the cost of replacing all your stuff if there's a fire or something would be nigh insurmountable.

I do have renter's actually. And it looks like GEICO does offer those types of insurance now, if you're interested.

Their ridiculously low prices just make me suspicious. I mean, they cost literally HALF of what I'm getting from other places. It makes me think there has to be a catch.

I think part of it is that they don't maintain a local office. I have State Farm now, and my agent has a nice office on the square. For me, it's worth it because I have a personal relationship with the folks in the office and know I can count on them. I haven't priced out the difference because I'm so happy with the service I'm getting from them. That said, I didn't have trouble with GEICO, and I did have to file a claim once when someone hit me.

We've had great success with Progressive in the past. We filed a claim with them when I hit a deer. They provided a rental car for a week at no cost to us and our rates never went up because it was not a driver on driver accident. We don't have them any longer because the agent we go through found something just a little bit cheaper, and they always automatically switch us if they find something cheaper...unless we tell them not to.

Hmmm. Who's the agent you go through?
