nothing rhymes with the longest tour review in the history of mankind

Dec 18, 2006 01:27

So I saw seven shows on Panic! At The Disco's Nothing Rhymes With Circus tour, and I've just now finished up my write-up. \o/ And by write-up I mean: novel. We're talking meta-analysis, show by show details, discussion of male/male sexuality in popular culture, links to videos, minor comparisons to pop music past and present, vague assertions as ( Read more... )

Ooh. This is so shiny and intelligent, it's like an early christmas present. If you wrioe us more essays on Panic (or any of these bands, or slash, or, you know.. anything...) I would be hugely happy. I'm equally intrigued by their intentions in their presentation of themselves and their stage shows and I wish they would talk about this more in interviews.

Oh, tempt me. I loved writing this, meta is so much fun. I really wish that would come into fashion, textual analysis of RPF. I'm down. I'm ready for it. If people really loved me they'd talk more about characterization. And porn.

But yes, if I had a chance to interview Panic!, I'd probably say stuff like this essay. Only less articulately. And, while blushing.

I remember rereading a past GSF in this comm once and finding in the comments someone's wish to write an essay on how to write GSFs, and it may have been you or it may not but I just wish whoever it was, or anyone else, and by anyone else I mean you, would write that. There just needs to be a lot more meta, a lot more essays, a lot more debates on the theories behind slash, because it's so fascinating and let's use the fact that we're all pretty intelligent and if it is all about the porn, as non slashers seem to think, at least it can be analysed porn :D

Hi, I found this via lurking DYW, and re: Panic! and sexual/gender theory, YES YES YES. I was thinking all this (anthropology nerd), but I didn't know how to word it properly, and you did, and THANK YOU. Mind if I link this to a few friends? You know, so they don't think I'm batshit insane for babbling about how Panic!'s aesthetic is an overturning of traditional gender roles, etc. (which I think I tried to do while dead tired on the way back from the show in Sunrise, FL, and probably failed).

ANYWAY. When Brendon did the grinding up on Ryan thing during I Write Sins Ryan turned to Pete after and grinned and said, "Did you like that?".
That's, um, pretty much the best thing EVER. Whoa.

Trust me, it took me seven shows to really figure out what I wanted to say and then I was still up late last night finding the words. Please, link away! I was hoping I wouldn't be just writing this thing into the void; it's such an interesting show that I couldn't help but, you know, go on about it for pages...and pages... :D

Re: best thing EVER, oh, I know, I know. That happened and I really just had to have a moment of like, really, Panic!? Really, you're that good to me? You're everything I've ever wanted in a band? God, okay.

I don't have anything to say because I (ALAS) didn't go to any shows on this tour, but it's been great fun hearing all the details trickle in via DYW and my f-list.

every girl in the audience that's cheering when Brendon invades Ryan's space is one girl that's not going to give into homophobic bullshit, one girl that's going to grow up thinking boy-on-boy is hot rather than gross. I doubt that Panic! set out to be an object lesson in Why Being Gay Is A-Okay! but honestly anything that destigmatizes homosexuality is fine with me.

Finally, I'd like to say as someone who's: 1. queer, 2. into slash, 3. possessing a working pair of eyes and fine sense of aesthetics, that I think it's divine what they're doing, and that they should have kissed at least at the last show, because come on guys, quit being such big fucking teases. I'm just kidding. Please keep being exactly who you are, because the type of audience you're appealing to is me, my girlfriend, and all my friends, and frankly we really appreciate it, so thank you.Thank you, yes, THANK YOU. I've kind of talked my girlfriend's ear off about this, as well as a few of my friends, but just. It actually means a lot to me to see people who are doing ( ... )

I could probably talk for about a million years about this, how regardless of intent homosexuality portrayed in a positive way is a step forward, but! I have a feeling you're already there with me. Yay for the gay, Panic! Yay!

Yeah, this tour was completely amazing. Frankly there's not really another band out there I'd want to see that many times. This tour made me understand Rentheads, seriously.

Yeah, there was a little attached ice rink at the venue (they were hosting a kid's birthday party there) and Brendon and Spencer apparently spent a bit of the afternoon ice-skating. Boys, why so darling?

Hearts. :)
