Those who can't Do, Teach

Jan 18, 2009 21:35

Commn statement about people who are CMI (cannot make it) always end up being teachers.
Quite a sweeping statement, and not without some truths in it. Of course its a rather rude view-point on teachers.
Someone made a remark today, "Since the economy is so bad now, go become a teacher."
I resent people who make that kind of statements. It puts a ( Read more... )

yesterday i attend 'teaching as a career' seminar. from the looks of the guests, i reckon they're moe's current targets, mid career transition.

but taking a closer look at their faces, i couldn't help but wanted to cry for our younger generation. you know what i mean by that.

I think you were a little too quick to take offense. Our education system is compulsory (for better or worse), and this isn't likely to change during a recession. Which is to say that there will always be a demand for teachers regardless of the economic times. The same is true of lots of jobs, from janitors to politicians. "cushiness" has nothing to do with it.

You're right.
I would agree that i am being too quick to defend.
Its also arrogance on my part.

But i seriously hope that more people sign up without the notion that this is just something for them to put food on the table.

Well, I'm confident that such people will leave under 2 conditions:
1) when the economy recovers & there are better or higher paying jobs.
2) when they are simply sick of the admin, additional work & nonsense from kids/teenagers.

For those who refuse to leave even though they do not really enjoy teaching, well, _____ (enter name of god of whichever religion is applicable) save both them & the students.

i dunno how the younger students are going to respect teachers and learn their manners if teachers treat them as clients.

the generation of '早安老师' has disappeared

And you know what?
He calls himself the only band music educator in the region of South-east Asia?

Throw him into a N(T) class sure will cry one. But what to do, he has been pampered from day 1 (while the rest of us struggle with having to make do with very little resources).

He doesn't know anything about real education, just someone who has found some success with a formula.

I don't feel any different than you, sometimes it just sucks to be right there in the room.

You have it worse, sitting in the first row.
At least i can sleep behind the xylophone.

Tornadom's pretty pissed too. She wanted to throw a shoe out at him. After i had sufficiently calmed her down, i suggested the suspended cymbal because it probably can travel further, hit him, and make a permamnent mark somewhere.

I even offered to throw the cymbal if she found it too heavy.

sorry to butt in when you guys seem so fired up.

but i couldn't help but snigger at the thought of you guys using your various instruments to attack a particular person (and was there a mention of a shoe!).

I've always found the pipa string quite resilient and suitable for strangling people. :p I could loan you some.

i jest... of course...

We need people like the 2 of you la.
We need passionate educators who are willing to drive the next generation to excellence WITH values imparted.

I am so tired of people who keep demanding "what can the present generation do for me" instead of asking "what can i do for the future generations"?

I pray that more of the latter will join up and become educators.

The former, well, all i can say is i hope they can go dig a hole somewhere and bury themselves in. At least they'll be more useful as fertiliser...

Actually i have always found that the Pipa's thickness suitable for small poisonous darts.

The instrument itself serves quite well as a clubbing implement.

The frets on the finger board too, if the player tilts sideways, he could shoot stuff out from the sides.

The tuning pegs could be removed to reveal daggers.

And yes, totally agree on the strings on strangulation.
