so when you're moving...

...how do you keep yourself on track to keep packing so that you get everything done on time?
Do you do a couple boxes a day, or by section of the apartment, or what?
I'm finding myself struggling with the process- I can't seem to focus, I get stressed easily, and I don't accomplish much.
How do you pack to move?

Hmm. I haven't needed to move in a while. Mostly, though, my approach has been to first set aside the stuff that I will need from now until I am unpacked - that goes in a bag or in a few boxes, depending on how long before unpacking.

Second, I get rid of as much stuff as possible. Seriously. If you skip this, you will pack, move, and unpack stuff that is not at all worth your time. If you are not SURE that you would still mourn it five years from now, PITCH IT! Have an unsentimental friend help you with this. BE RUTHLESS!

Now, you should have at least a third less stuff. I generally pack things based on rooms - where will it go in the new space? I usually start with books. With less stuff, it gets a lot easier. Use clothes and linens to wrap the fragile stuff. It's way more efficient than newspaper.

I hope this helps.

I just moved last month and struggled with the same problem.
I kept trying to keep organized, but was never successful.
It was annoying annoying annoying.

Best of luck.

Bless up.

First, I see how much time I have left before leaving. Let's say I have 2 weeks. The first 3 days, I just throw away what I am not going to need, or make a goodwill pile. Think "do I love it?" "Do I need it?" "Does it make me upset/happy when I see it?" "Will I want it later but I don't need it for the next 2 weeks and when I'll be away?" For each question, decide if you want to keep the thing, throw it away, give it away, or leave it with someone until you return ( ... )

Best thing I found to do was to start from the back...back of the closet, back of drawers, back of the cabinets...stuff you normally don't use, so you're basically separating the things you use on a daily basis and the things you don't. It helps to just do a little bit here and there if you are not packing up in a hurry, it keeps you from stressing out and gives you time to breathe :)
