I hear your anger loud and clear and I'm glad you let it out here. And I googled those BNP phrases just to double-check that they weren't paraphrased and oh god words fail me. Ugh.

Re the Brit stuff: You may want to look up and read Jo Walton's "Small Change" trilogy, set in an alternative Britain that made peace with Hitler rather than fighting him. I've read the first 2, and they're amazing; the 3rd is in my TBR mountain (but I bought it in hardback!).

Re Craigslist: I fnd it fascinating, historically, that this is being used in ways very similar to certain times in Britain's history- when (according to some sources) it was not unusual for working-class women to spend a few years in sex work to get a dowry together, and who then married and joined the ranks of the respectable with no particular stigma. And- according to these sources, whose details I am blanking on- the Victorians, with their desire to "help" such women, actually made it worse by making it harder to move from sex work to respectable matron, even though to some extent that was not their intent; unintended consequences can really bite one in the ass.
