Saw Sweeney Todd with morlader today.

I definitely recommend it for fans of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.

For fans of the opera, not so much.

That's kind of what I figured when I heard how much of the music didn't make it into the film. :(

It's not just the music that was cut outright, but parts that were missing from the music retained. For instance, "Pirelli's Miracle Elixir" and "God That's Good" appeared (heavily abridged), yet there was no chorus at any point in the movie - not even at the lines the chorus was supposed to sing. So the actual line "God, that's good!" was simply instrumental, and Todd's and Mrs. Lovett's interjections in PME ("Pardon me ma'am, what's that awful stench?", &c.) became solos. Then, again, during Todd's "Johanna", only Todd, Anthony and the Beggar Woman sang - Johanna's own lines were notably absent (probably because they quoted "Kiss Me", which was cut entirely ( ... )

Up
