I finally got to see the newest episode of BSG this morning. Holy Mackerel, that one was a brain-frak. Not since Season Two with the appearance of Admiral Cain did BSG have so gripping a mid-season. Of course, this left me with a bunch of stuff to mull over/discuss/rant about:

So Ellen Tigh's the last Cylon. A bunch of fans on the BSG website fora have been prognosticating that for at least a couple months, much to the resistance of other fans who hated the idea of the last Cylon being a dead character. There's certainly a great deal of irony in Col. Tigh killing his wife for collaborating with the Cylons only to find out that they're both Cylons, and it explains why the fifth Secret Cylon didn't respond to "All Along the Watchtower", but it does bring up another question: Ellen didn't die until after the exodus from New Caprica, by which time there were no Cylon agents in the Fleet, because everyone knew what they looked like. Athena died and downloaded to rescue Hera from the baseship, but not before D'anna was on the aglae planet. So how did D'anna know that only four Cylons were left in the Fleet?

The 13th Tribe of Kobol was a tribe of Cylons. This was the real mind-blower for me. This must be what everyone (hybrids, prophets, &c.) means by "all this has happened before, and will happen again". But can they have been the first to colonize Earth? I mean, the ruins of Kobol, the beacon in the nebula, the timing of the Exodus and the departure of the 13th Tribe suggest goings on much older. Could it be that life out there, began here? Consider: Humans evolve on Earth, and eventually develop hyperspace travel, Cylons, &c. Conflict with the Cylons; Mankind is forced to leave Earth, and colonize Kobol, hence the Tomb of Athena, with the constellations of the Zodiac as seen from Earth. Conflict with the Cylons again; Cylons leave and go back to Earth; Humans leave later and found the 12 Colonies. Each time there's a conflict with the Cylons, humans retreat from high technology - hence the reason that they now have space travel and such, but otherwise equivalent to early 21st Century us.

So Starbuck finds her own dead body in the wreckage of her viper. How did it get there? It exploded, with her in it, in a gas giant light years upon light years away. How did she crash on Earth?

And what of the Final Five? All four of the surviving Fin5 have memories of living and dying on Earth. Were they rescued by whomever saved/resurrected Starbuck? Did Earth Cylons have their own resurrection capabilities? Also, how did Earth Cylons come to be among Colonial Cylons? Did those five maybe meet up with the "Toaster"-style Cylons after the Great War, and show them how to become "skin jobs"?

The producers keep promising "All Will Be Revealed". Somehow, though, I get the feeling they'll still leave us with stuff to ponder and debate and go "What the frak?!" about when this is all over.

I hope so.
