Flushed with success

At the Erma Bombeck Writers Workshop (April 2010), during one of the breaks, the lineup to the ladies'
room  was very long. As I exited the men's room a few feet away, a few ladies rushed towards me/the
men's room door, and I wondered, "What's going on?" They explained their desperation and asked
whether I would guard the door to the men's room so they could use the facilites.

I realized that this was a high-speed emergency rather than a dial-up need. Once the men's room was
clear, the parade of the desperate swans entered their brave new world with me guarding the door. The
boy scouts' motto is "semper paratus" (Latin for "always prepared"). Although I was never a boy scout,
perhaps there is such a thing as retroactive medals for good deeds.
