Agree with you about a lot of the bios out nowadays! The ones I usually read are those of older people who have done a lot. The rock ones are just rather entertaining because of the excesses...!

Found you accidentally thru a Who post...hope you don't mind me dropping in on this old post. We seem to have a lot of common interests - reading, gaming, etc. For autobiographies, if you don't care if they're celebrities or not, I'd recommend The World's Strongest Librarian by Josh Hanagarne. He's still young, but has Tourette's syndrome, so he has a lot to talk about. He's also a Mormon, which was interesting reading about.

I also recently read All Over But the Shoutin', by Rick Bragg. It's an interesting look into the American South, if you're into that (I live in Tennessee myself!).

I definitely don't mind - and will reciprocate as soon as I have time in between work over the next couple of days.

I like the sound of the books you've recommended - particularly Josh Hanagarne's. A fascinating life is certainly worth a read. I've just returned to Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, which I promised myself I'd reread a few weeks back.

I'm based in South Wales, UK, about 25 miles away from Cardiff (where I was born)and my heart remains in what I now consider Dr Who land! (It also means I was in Bells of St John's, albeit briefly as a face on one of the screen, and one of my friends, who does a lot of extra work, is regularly spotted on set!)
