Filled with hate...

I hate with a deep, terrifying passion, Massachussetts law. Just got a call from the folks I was hoping to do insurance with that, after all the time I spent on the phone, whoops, sorry, we can't insure you. You're about 2 months too late. So here's the call to you folks. Who's relatively local that people can recommend for auto insurance? ( Read more... )

Apparently, about 2 months or so ago, someone (It wasn't immediately clear as to whether it was the state or a higher power within the agency) said that, no, we're cannot or are not covering people anymore. If I was already eligible (which I'm not, again, because MA law blows goats), and already had a policy, they would cover me through the next renewal. If I wasn't eligible and didn't have a policy, up until 2 or so months ago, they could have covered me through what is basically a shell company.

If you are looking for an agent you could try Gaudette Insurance. They have an office in Grafton and another in Whitinsville. I originally set up/transferred the policy Commerce Policy through the Whitinsville office all over the phone and it was painless. The one in Grafton is near the Dunkins on 122 so it would be close to UPS about 10 minutes down the street if you wanted to go in there.

Frankly, A-affordable hasn't been bad to me, though they're just an agent.

Avoid Commerce like the plague. Amica's generally good. Premier's good, but they're kinda wankers on the bureaucracy.

Why? I've had Commerce for 16 years and they've always been good to me.

I use Amica, and while I've never had to make a claim, they've been amazingly helpful, responsive, and even gregarious in their customer service.

I use the same agent for Commerce Insurance. Everyone at the office is super nice and I've had no problems with Commerce. That includes having my car wrecked (my fault, I rear-ended a truck) and having my car stolen and recovered (damn you Worcester!!)

My only suggestion is find an agent you like and go through them.

I'll have to disagree with lady_darkwolf... I had Commerce for a few years, and had alot of hassle, specially when putting up claims.

I highly recommend Arbella. I liked them alot when I had them. I wouldn't have switched if my job didn't give me such a great discount thru Metlife, and the ability to take the payment out of my paychecks.
