It was one of those days when just about everything went wrong. A steady parade of equipment malfunctions, complaints, and personality conflicts had left Markus wishing he could lock his office door and hide.
He couldn't, of course. The welfare the Mountain was his responsibility. Fortunately, there was a place where he could escape without leaving his chair. He changed his monitor from the armory to the library where a dozen children sat on the floor, expectantly watching a man in threadbare clothes.
"Charlotte's Web," said Mister Smith as he opened the book on his lap.
