...and they're all going through the same developmental stages at the same time and can't get the opportunity to take natural mentor/mentee roles... none of them have been through it before to help each other out nor have an elder kid's expertise to draw on...

usually my friends were not in my grade, but a year or two older. when i had them. elementary school sucked :P
