What exactly is it about the person in their car in front of us, strictly adhering to the speed limit, or in fact perhaps prescribing to a speed a little below the speed LIMIT, that makes us want to grab their attention at a red light, get out of our car with some kind of bar (be it metal, wood, or plastic) drag the driver in front from their car

Tsk tsk.
Get a motorbike, honey. The point immediately becomes moot, as you just hop in front of them at the next traffic lights and immediately disappear from their range of view as soon as the light turns green.
Motorbikes cure road rage. Everyone should get their motorbike licence. (spoken with the fanatacism of the well-and-truly-converted).
