I've been pondering something the past few days (though the seeds have been germinating for several months). So how do I put this without sounding whiny...?
By fandom I mostly mean Naruto fandom, as it's the only fandom I participate in and what most of my f-list watches me for. I think it's been on its last leg for a while now. Even my interest is dwindling; I only read a very select few authors now, and never actively look for anything fandom related. This is one of the reasons my current fic is my last. So maybe its more accurate to say that Naruto in general fits that failing TV show metaphor, and what I'm experiencing is the trickledown.
I can't really see myself getting into another fandom. I just don't have the same enthusiasm for anything else - or if I do, the verse itself isn't as open for creative interpretation as Naruto (as in not as many open-ended plotholes to explore) and I'm just not inspired.
I'll admit I'm just not feeling KakaSaku at the moment so I'm not really reading that fandom as much. I still look at your art work and drool all over my screen but any writings regardless of who writes it just isn't grabbing my attention.
Give it a few months and I'll probably be back to reading it. But at the moment KakaSaku just isn't in my focus. I'm back onto SasuSaku (now there's an almost dead fandom).
I still stalk your page because you are one of the best writers out there for the Naruto fandom (there are just so many crap writers and I really hate searching through them for the few gems that are out there).
I'm surprised SasuSaku is dying, being that it was always the most popular. If there's anything to blame for that I would say its probably Sasuke himself?
You're actually one of the few who still interact with me on a fairly frequent basis. :)
As long as there are series to fawn over, fandom will never die. <3
In my opinion, it feels like the majority of LJ users are older/mature...? I mean, I remember that LJ was the "big" thing five or six years ago. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and other social networking sites seem to have caught other people's eyes.
I hope I will see more things from you, even after Will of Fire is finished. Personally, I'd like to see what other fandoms interest you - if you have any recommendations, then do tell. :D
I mostly meant Naruto fandom, specifically, is dead/dying. The people who made the fandom active have/are all moving on (including me, soon) and no one new is taking their place. I do agree that the various social media out there now are monopolizing people's attention. I personally don't get it; I've never thought other people would find every detail of my day relevant or interesting, and vice versa. I'm just a naturally private and unintrusive person

A few people have told me they're waiting to read until it's finished. But that's probably going to be close to 6 months from now, and who knows if they'll even still be around? Lol.
Could you be talking about Silvershine? I wondered what happened to her. She was running 2 good fics at the same time and they were pretty much the only thing I was reading and then...gone. I'm working on a novel too, but I can't abandon what I'm doing now in favor of it. What kind of writer and storyteller is that? I have to purge this idea before I can devote myself to another.
Yes - I miss SilverShine! And SakuraHaru. I believe they are both quite busy with their original writings at the moment. It's been over a year since Nottoca updated her fic. Several other writers have moved on to other fandoms or maybe just gotten busy with RL happenings.
As far as why they dropped their projects - well, it's their project, their prerogative. As a reader, I might be a wee bit (okay - a lot) disappointed but I understand that people write fanfics as a hobby and that they write for their own pleasure. I'm just the lucky reader/bystander to witness something wonderful unfold and to that end, my opinions are moot.
However, I'm glad that you're willing to stick with WoF until it's finished. It's a huge incentive for me to check it out ASAP! :)
Of course it's a writer's prerogative to drop their story if they want, I just think it's unfair to the people who have supported them from the beginning. After all it's reader support and encouragement that makes us realize we might have a shot at being a professional author. Me personally, I just need the closure. I don't think I'll ever be one of those authors that has 2-3 series going simultaneously.
Well, I'm not as involved in Naruto fandom in general anymore since I don't keep up with the manga or anime. I also try to wait until fics are finished before reading them so that's why I haven't commented much on any of your Will of Fire stuff. Could it be that others are doing something similar
