good news, bad news

Bill the appliance repair guy came out today. The good news it that as I suspected, the dryer just needs a switch to be replaced and it should be fully functional. He has to order it as he didn't have that exact part in the van, but it should be less (possibly significantly less) than the price of the service call.

The bad news is that the dishwasher is shot. There was a tiny leak in the bottom of it over the motor, and over time enough water hit the motor to ruin it. It also made a mess of the floor underneath it. Although the motor can be replaced, Bill's off-hand estimate was that it would be at least 2/3 the price of buying an equivalent brand new dishwasher. Since this dishwasher is quite old (~early 1990s) an upgrade makes more sense. So for at least another month we'll be hand washing the dishes.

Now I'm going to go attempt to diagnose and repair the drippy faucet in the bathroom. Isn't home ownership fun?
