New Cd

I had a Best Buy gift card which was just begging to be redeemed on some new CDs. When I left the house on Sunday I fully intended to acquire Magic, the brand new album by the Boss. After all, if I'm willing to drop the cash to see him live, the least I can do is grab the new album so I'll recognize the 6+ tracks he'll play off it, right?

My intent was blunted when I got to the radio station. We had finally received a copy of the album at WRUW, so I cracked it open and gave it a quick listen. It didn't sound bad, but it was the first Bruce album I've ever listened to that didn't drag me in by the throat on the first listen. With that in mind, I still intended to pick it up at Best Buy after the show so I could listen to it repeatedly and get in the proper frame of mind for the show.

Even with this intended mental commitment, I wandered up and down the aisles and checked out the goods. No sense in being too hasty, right? Besides, it's always interesting to see what bands are on the shelf there. Since I don't listen to very much commercial radio and do the vast bulk of my CD shopping at little local joints I don't have much conception of what's popular now. Sometimes I see stuff at Best Buy that I've been playing on my show without being aware that it has become super trendy. This time I was pleasantly surprised to see a rather large quantity of the latest effort by Josh Ritter, which I chose not to acquire at this time even though it is excellent. I also snagged a copy of the new album by Peter Bjorn and John for xhollydayx since we'll be going to see them at the Beachland in November.

It came time to check out, when I saw something that drove thoughts of Bruce from my mind. There it was, a remastered copy of my favorite Miles Davis album, with not one, not two, but three bonus tracks. I grabbed it. Later that night I sat on my battered loveseat and listened to some truly gorgeous music. Sorry Bruce, you'll just have to wait.

And for those of you who don't savvy Peter Bjorn & John, here's a clip for their best known song.
