She'll be at the Beachland Tuesday, November 20. I've said many great things about her, and they're all true, but this time how about if we let Sara talk? You may remember Sara as the
friend I hooked on Miss Jones last year. Well, last week I was one of about 20 people who got the following email from her. I have changed some names and put real links in where warranted, but the text is untouched:
I am so excited to be sending out this email!
On 20 November, the Beachland Ballroom will be hopping 'n' bopping to the funky tunes of
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and I would like to get as many people together as possible, not only to witness one of the best entertainers in the music business, but also to celebrate my birthday early (it falls on the unfortunate Day after Thanksgiving this year).
Thanks to
cynic51, I went to see Miss Jones in Chicago for her New Year's Eve performance, and I have been absolutely hooked ever since! In fact, we're so certain that you'll have such a good time that we're proposing a money-back guarantee to those who are not satisfied with their evening. See
here for Terms and Conditions. It's actually
cynic51's site, but I'll be helping back up his offer :D
I'm hoping to pick up tickets this weekend for those who know now that this is how they want to spend that Tuesday night in November. Tickets are $15, and may still be available closer to the concert date, if you're not convinced yet that this is an experience you shouldn't be passing up. I realize that there's already an offer on the table for tickets that same night to see the Cavs stop the Milwaukee Bucks. My feelings will not be hurt if you have a tendency for sports over music as your entertainment du jour ... I'll be too busy dap-dippin' the night away!
Take care,
Sara
PS: If you have a MySpace account, check out Sharon Jones with the Godfather, James Brown!
PSS: Forward this email to anyone who might be interested in the concert, as well, I've been wracking my brain too hard to remember everyone to invite :}
Sara has good taste in music and you can absolutely trust her. If you don't trust her, trust her friend Jen who saw the aforementioned New Year's Eve Show and who sent this response to Sara's email:
I wouldn't miss it for the world, bought my plane ticket tonight!
Thanks
cynic51 - we had a blast on New Years....see you soon! love -jen
That's two hot girls who love Sharon Jones, to go with the many other people who've testified. The verdict is in: if you only go to one concert this year, this is it. Remember, if you come see Miss Jones and don't have a good time, I'll give you cash for your ticket on the spot as detailed
here. Her new album is pretty darn good, and I have high hopes for this concert, which will be the fifth time I see her. Be there or be square.
EDIT: hey look, the new video is out!

That's the title track from the new album. It's one of her slower numbers. And yes, she brings the entire band with her on tour.
