I think that Walk Score is really cool. I don't know that it's necessarily accurate, as it gave my residence a score in the high 70s, even though many of the stores they mention are [a] the only one of their type in walking distance [b] don't necessarily sell essential items of that type. But it's still cool ( Read more... )

Yeah, I got about the same rating as you, but it was obviously missing many, many restaurants that are within less than a mile - it lists 8, and there are closer to 30.

This is an ideal walking area, actually. Which is why I'm completely neutral about the house-selling thing - the house next to the Meyers is very awesome, but this neighborhood is as well. Whichever way it goes, it's all good.

I'm not surprised you got a higher score, what with all those mall-like things at the end of your block. I suspect your potential new address won't be as high though, since it's in the middle of a much bigger residential block. Although I suppose it's not that far to Lee.

Assuming we move. At this point no one seems interested. Which isn't the end of the world.

My address got an 82 :)

My parents got a 29, heh. I wonder what it would have rated before they put in the closer grocery store.

My sister's place actually scored a 0!!

So does your sister live in some completely and totally rural area, or some suburban hell?

Rural. Very very rural. Apparently this year they aren't plowing the road she lives on on the weekends, and will only plow on weekdays if the snows are bad. :P

and oh yeah, you probably got the higher score because you make it to Detroit and all those bars in < 2 minutes, whereas it takes me about 10 minutes and there aren't nearly as many bars in my area.

I scored a 46. Which doesn't really surprise me, since Atlanta is traffic HELL.

it currently lists my address in santa fe as a 40. now, i don't live downtown, and i didn't expect walk score to create miracles. but i would have definitely ranked it lower, if only for this - i don't think that one can truthfully count the "bureau of land management" as a library. i'm just saying.
