Interesting that you have Jasper Fforde on there. Although while I absolutely LOVED "The Jane Eyre Affair", the rest of the series seems to be going more and more downhill with each book - I think it is suffering from Robert Jordan syndrome - opening more issues that resolving them with each book.
If you liked "Forever War", you may also want to check out "Old Man's War" by Scalzi (I think).
I just heard via BoingBoing about a young adult book called "Jumper" - there is a graphic novel based on that, that looked decent.
Finally, I just recently got into Bill Bryson's stuff - "A Walk in the Woods", A book on europe, and recently a book about Shakespeare (or more to the point, a book about everyone's cockamanie ideas about Sharespeare). He's definitely entertaining and worth checking out.

I think Fforde's problem is more that he doesn't have a plot, really so much as a bunch of highly improbable weird coincidences. The books are definitely getting worse... but honestly, Douglas Adams had two great books and after that it went downhill, so I can live with this.

I read Old Man's War in 2006 and liked it. See also his Agent to the Stars.
Is Jumper related to the upcoming movie?
As to Bill Bryson, I've read his Australia book and his England book and enjoyed both.

But yes, it is related to the new Sam L Jackson flick.
Apparently, we have:
Jumper
Jumper : Griffin's story
Jumpscars (Graphic novel based in the same world)
Reflex (sequel to Jumper).
I haven't read them yet - waiting for the library to process.
