My parents gave us 29 rolls of R-30 insulation for our Hanukkah present. It was delivered Friday morning and Dad & I installed it that day. The attic is now very pink. Since we already had compressed R-19 over much of the attic, we should now officially have enough
per the DOE. We also did an excellent job of covering the top of the ladder to the attic and also made an attempt to block the doorway into the attic space, both of which were a straight shot to the roof prior to this.
Coincidentally, our heat bill for the last month arrived this morning. We used an estimated 24.4 MCF over 33 days with an average temperature of 29 degrees. Hopefully the next one will be a lot less, and then I can find something new to stress about :-) Actually, my parents pointed out a few other minor things I could do to reduce energy use (some insulation in the basement, blocking the draft coming from some of the outlets in the kitchen) that are less than extreme than replacing windows.
