2011 Oscar Breakdown

I'm still struggling with the best way to do my 2010 Movie Year in Review, so in the meantime I'll distract you with an Oscar breakdown. I'm only going to bother with the major categories.

Here they are )

Commenting only where I think you might not be right.

Best movie: I didn't think Inception was confusing or deep, and I am still baffled by that reading of it. The Kids are All Right was indeed boring and trite. Social Network won the Golden Globe (and was actually quite good), so it's the frontrunner. But I would like to see Black Swan win. As much as I loved The King's Speech, and as much as it deserved all those nominations, I don't see it winning.

Best Supporting Actress: I would LOVE to see you right, but Melissa Leo is probably going to win. The Academy loves roles where someone disappears inside and allows themselves to be truly hideous. And Leo was.

Yeah, but when two people from the same film are nominated for the same category, neither wins. Weaver has zero chance. That leaves Carter or Steinfeld. Carter's probably the smart bet, but Steinfeld was better.

On the other hand, this is now Adams' 3rd nomination for BSA [Junebug, Doubt]. She's got to win sometime, right?

They were both nominated for Golden Globes and Leo won. Just sayin'.
