Originally I was going to do one every month, but it's March and that hasn't happened. So I'll post them here so I can feel extra guilty about not doing them in the future.
1. Organize my recipes, which are currently stashed in a drawer. It's gotten bad enough that I sometimes print out a recipe again rather than looking for it. Throw out ones that aren't needed. Put recipes to be tried in a folder. Put the rest in my recipe book.
2. Organize my ticket collection, which is currently stored in an overflowing one gallon ziplock bag. Way back in 2004 a girl I was dating actually bought me a scrapbook to put them in. Frankly, the odds of that happening are close to zero, but at the very least I need to split them into another bag, and if I'm going to do that I might as well split them out so sports events are in one bag, movies in a second, concerts in a third, theater in a fourth, etc.
3. Go through the big box of random computer stuff that's in my closet. Give away or recycle everything I don't actually need (aka, 95% of the box).
4. Way back when I started doing this LiveJournal thing, there was no tagging ability. When it was added, I enthusiastically adopted it. However, there are several years of untagged posts, which irritates me endlessly and basically means that I never look at the posts from those years. Go through those years and tag everything.
5. Go through my clothes. Get rid of stuff that I never wear, that doesn't fit or that's damaged beyond repair. Take anything else that's damaged to get fixed. Buy new clothes to fill any gaps. I used to do this every time I moved, but since I've now been in the same address for almost five years it's past time to get it done again. My conservative estimate is that I probably can get rid of as much as 1/3 of my clothing.
6. This one is actually fun. As you know, I keep really anal-retentive lists of books, movies and concerts. These are stored in flat text files in my mail account. For books and movies this works fine, as I only list books the first time I read them, and I rarely if ever see the same movie twice. However, for concerts it is very limiting. I'd love to be able to say "I saw band XYZ three times and band ABC twice," but to do that I currently have to go through 12+ years of text files and count. That's tedious and prone to error. I'm thinking of spinning up a really simple database app that I can use to manage all of this. I've got a basic table schema in mind and should be able to whip something up in Access pretty easily.
7. Start calling HVAC contractors to get estimates for installing central air conditioning. Ok, this is actually happening. When paint starts to peel in your house due to humidity, it's time to get a/c. This is complicated by my lack of air ducts, but there are a number of a/c options that can work around that.
8. Start calling roofing contractors to get estimates for fixing the kitchen roof. Better late than never. This is going to happen too.
