Running Results - Youth Challenge 5K

This race was at my place of employment. It wasn't too hot thanks to extensive cloud cover and a nice breeze, but it was muggy. Not that many people were running compared to my last time out time out, so there was plenty of room to swing your arms. My bib # was 383, and for humor value I realized that I got to my office earlier than I did for my actual day job in the last month (woo flex time!)

There weren't any timing gadgets, so all splits are approximate, especially the third one as I was sprinting when I went past it. I did remember to look at the finishing clock this time so that time is correct.

1 Mile: 9:25 ( 9:25)
2 Miles: 19:25 (10:00)
3 Miles: 29:55 (10:30)
Finish: 30:37 ( 0:42)

I also started back in the pack, so you can cut a minimum of 5 seconds before I crossed the line. My first two mile splits were better than my first two splits from the last race. However, I paid for not walking at all during the first two miles with two longer walks (100+ yards each) in the last mile, which pushed up the split for the third mile. Not even a dead sprint for the last .1 miles could knock my time back down enough to beat last outing's estimated 30:20.

On the plus side, I did only walk twice. My knee didn't hurt and when I dug for fire at the end I was really moving, which admittedly is a sign that I probably should have put a little more energy into the first two miles.

Since I bowed out of my last 5K due to injury I need to run two more to get the jacket. There's one at the zoo in early October which I intend to do largely because it will keep me running through the next set of company sponsored blood tests which will hopefully show that my blood sugar and triglycerides have dropped and my HDL has risen. I need to find one other 5K in September, which hopefully won't be too challenging.

And now I need to run a bunch of errands before I head to see Wilco tonight in Columbus.

LATE EDIT:
20 training runs, 37.1 miles covered. I was prettily steadily running 2 and 3 times a week, plus ultimate, but the injury knocked me out of groove.
