You May Already Be a Winner: Iceland 2012 Edition
Everyone likes free food, right? Let's have a contest then!
Courtesy of my trip to Iceland (I'm posting this from our apartment in Reykjavik!), this Monday morning 8/20 (or maybe Tuesday if the flights get messed up) I'm going to check my work email for the first time since August 9. Guess how many NEW emails are in my work account inbox on Monday morning when I log in and you can win! Here are the rules:
- The total includes all emails sent by automated systems such as build servers, continuous integration servers and the like. It includes all meeting requests and any spam that makes it past the filters into my inbox.
- Unlike last time, coworkers are eligible. If you figure out how to hack it, you deserve to win! Previous winners, e.g. butterandjelly are not eligible.
- Your response must be left as a comment on this thread by 9amish EST on Monday. All comments are screened, so nobody else can see your guess, thereby hopefully preventing "The Price is Right" syndrome. If your guess is closest to the actual total you win! One guess per person please.
- I'll post the winner Monday night.
- The decision of the judge (aka, me) is final.
The winner gets a free dinner; if you live in Cleveland I'll cook or take you out, and if you don't live in Cleveland we'll figure something out (like me visiting you or buying you a gift card or overnighting you a huge block of cheese or something).
For what it's worth, in July I got 1352 emails at work. I made a concerted effort to tell my whole team that I was out of town this week, so that might have gone down. On the other hand, last time the winning number was a mere 128, so go figure.
One extra twist - the more guesses I get, the nicer the dinner prize will be. For example, if I get one guess the winner might get Chipotle, but if I get 25 guesses we might go to Deagans, and if I get 50+ guesses? Well, I've never actually been to Lola...
