Running 2013

Mar 29, 2013 23:42

So after some internal debate last year I ended up doing some running during the summer. I ran 51 training runs for 101.3 miles total. Yes, I'm anal-retentive. I also did four official 5Ks (posting a PR of a relatively lousy 29:03) which netted me a shiny jacket from my employer. I also lost seven pounds but did not otherwise improve my health scores in any substantial way.

After my last race in October I more or less packed it in for the winter. Aside from about two months of weight lifting and the continual dog walking I haven't done much this past winter. Fortunately, I eat reasonably healthy so last time I weighed myself I came in right at 225, which feels right; my jeans aren't as loose as they were at the end of last summer, but they aren't at all tight like they are when I clear 230.

My hike in the Grand Canyon definitely showed that I'm not in peak condition, which isn't exactly news. My plan for this summer is to do some hiking around the Metroparks. I'm going to play summer league ultimate. If I'm going to play ultimate I need to get myself back in full cardio shape, so I'm going to do some more running. My company is doing the 5K challenge again. My tentative dates:

The Hy-5K at my employer's place in Westlake on Saturday, May 18.

The Color Run in Willoughby on Saturday, June 8 as discussed on FB

The Lakewood Summer Meltdown on (I think) Saturday, July 13.

One other race to be determined. But only one, these things are expensive. If they do another one at my office like they did last year that would be my preferred choice if the schedule works. You're encouraged to come run with me.

Of course, too much running hurts my knees. So my stretch goal for 2013 is to bike to work at least twice a week. I'm going to price out a cheap bike tomorrow. If I like it, I can buy an expensive bike later.

So that's the plan. Run 2-3 times a week. Bike to work twice a week. Bike and hike in the Metroparks on weekends. I should probably work in some weights in there too, but that's a lower priority. Continue to cook a lot and eat generally healthy; I'm on a four week streak of no M&Ms at work, which trust me is way more impressive than the Miami Heat win 27 in a row.
