My
stated goal is to bike to work at least twice a week from the week of May 5 through the end of September. At the end of May I was on pace, but how am I doing now?
From May 5 through yesterday, there were 13 total weeks. One of those weeks I was on vacation, and another was a three day week because of Independence Day and the day off I tacked on to make it a four day weekend. Despite those handicaps, I have now biked in to work exactly 26 times, or two per week including the week I was off. So things are going well. On the aforementioned there day week I actually managed to bike all three days, which is the first time I biked on three consecutive days. During the hottest week of the year thus far (90+ every day) I was able to bike four of the five days.
There was only work week where I was unable to bike at all, which as with most most of the times I didn't bike was due to scheduling conflicts. One particular recurring conflict was Ultimate, which was on Wednesday nights this year so biking was not feasible on Wednesday except for when it was cancelled for Independence Day. Ultimate season has now come to an end so for the first time the potential for biking all five work days in a week exists.
I've commuted 26 times so far, racking up 468.2 miles. If you throw in other riding I'm at 515.2 miles for the year. My weight has dropped to about 215 and seems to have stabilized there, although last week I fell off the "only eat food I bring to work" bandwagon so once I get back on that perhaps it will go down some. I'm not overly bothered about that either way as losing weight was not my goal.
Buying a bike was an excellent decision. I fully expect to ride far beyond September; with cooperative weather I can easily imagine riding into December.
