I've now been doing this long enough that I've done year-in-review concert listings from 2003 through 2013, sans 2005 which got skipped for some reason. Here's my show of the year pick from each of those years:

2003 - Solomon Burke w/ The Black Keys @ Cain Park
2004 - Laibach @ Beachland Ballroom
2005 - Steve Earle & the Dukes w/Allison Moorer @ House of Blues (no write-up; extrapolated from list 8 years later)
2006 - Cowboy Junkies @ Kent Stage
2007 - The Mekons @ Pats in the Flats
2008 - Firewater @ Beachland Tavern
2009 - Mission of Burma @ Studio-A-Rama
2010 - We Were Promised Jetpacks @ Grog Shop
2011 - Medeski, Martin & Wood w/Dr. Lonnie Smith and Will Bernard @ Playhouse Square (Tri-C JazzFest)
2012 - Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band @ Kent Stage
2013 - Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott @ Finney Chapel

The most amazing thing about this list is that Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings never finished first in any given year. Hopefully they'll get plenty more chances to take the title!

Edit 12/18/2016: Today, I realized that I wrote up the 2006 summary before I went to see Sharon Jones at the Beachland Ballroom on 12/29/2006. I'm not saying that would have changed the final ranking... but I'm pretty sure it would have.
