Huge fan of Brunner - Really like thinking about sheep look up in the context of "clean foods" = organic, though clearly was published far before the organic movement.

It is perhaps not a great book, but Crucible of Time is fascinating attempt to capture the scientific evolution of a truly different species with a radically different biology. Worth reading.

I'll definitely add it to the list. I want to read Jagged Orbit, which is supposedly stylistically very similar to Stand, Sheep and Shockwave, but somehow the entire Cleveland library system does NOT have it. WTF?

Also - you'll note "The Traveller in Black" up there, which is a weird pseudo-fantasy morality tale of a story. It's not good, but is definitely interesting.
