Running Results - Hy-5K 2014

May 17, 2014 13:52

As with years past, my employer hosted a 5K, and I ran it. The big difference is that this year I'm pretty sure I'm not going to try for the jacket my employer gives to people who do 4 5Ks, so I haven't been running, just biking.

It therefore came as no surprise to me that my times in today's race were absolutely nothing special even though it was an optimally flat course with slightly chilly weather. If anything, I'm stunned that I somehow finished in 34:26 (chip time) or 34:58 (gun).

These times actually surprised me because my splits were actually a lot higher. The announced one mile split was 11:44 and the two mile split was 24:00 even, which means that assuming gun time on the announced splits I somehow did the last 1.1 in 11 minutes. This seems wildly improbably, even if I did sprint the last 100 meters and passed a decent number of people in that distance. I walked a decent amount due to knee pain after the water break at the halfway, so I don't see how that third mile could have been that fast. Still, I do know the clock time at the end did match the gun time, so I guess the splits were just wrong.

In any event, it was a fine run. My cardio level was pretty good and my knee hurt, so I may not do another one this year.
