Phil Ajjarapu Live in my Living Room!

Jul 06, 2014 10:39

On Sunday, July 13, I will be hosting my fourth house concert. Austin singer-songwriter and close personal friend Phil Ajjarapu will be invading my living room to play pop music from his new album to 30 or so of my closest friends. You should join us. Here's the Facebook invite with full details.

Phil has been in many bands over the years spanning a wide range of genres, usually as a bassist extraordinaire but subbing in capably on pretty much anything. In Cleveland he was in Grindstone and Chicken Fried Funk, among others. In Chicago he was member of Dry County. He toured with Liquid Soul for a while. For many years he has been a session player and sideman in Austin, Texas, and let's be honest, if you can get paid to be a session guy in Austin you are pretty damn good.

Phil was in a horrible traffic accident a few years back (summarized here). When he got out of the hospital, he figured he'd better make his own solo album while he still had the chance. One successful Kickstarter later, and he had the money to record "Sing Along You Until You Feel Better". It was produced by Ken Stringfellow, who is probably best known for his work with The Posies or maybe R.E.M.. Ken even blogged about the session for those of you who crave those behind the scenes details.

So what's the album sound like, I hear you ask? No problem. You can buy the album on Band Camp.

With an album full of pop goodness in hand, Phil and his faithful dog Molly are gigging across America. Their Cleveland stop is at my house, which is a great honor. You can follow Phil and Molly on tour via Twitter.

RSVP for the house concert on Facebook today. I'm going to lock down the invite next Friday when I make my address public on it, so don't hesitate.

For even more fun, Phil will be on my radio show on Sunday, July 13 from 2pm to 4pm. Clevelanders can tune in at 91.1 FM, or listen online at WRUW.org, or download the show for one full week in MP3 format by clicking on the 56K link next to Number 9 on the grid.

Thanks for helping make this house concert the best one yet.
