After the
last interlude, M and I went to Detroit for an overnight trip. The main impetus for the trip was a
Diego Garcia / Frida Kahlo art exhibit that was paired with the permanent installation of the
Detroit Industry Murals. We also went to the
Motown Museum, which was pretty fantastic.
82. Friday, May 15 -
China House - I got Chinese takeout for lunch with my coworkers.
83. Friday, May 15 -
Forage - This is a new restaurant two blocks from my house which I think is owned by the same people who own
Deagan's. It focuses, as so many new places do, on locally sourced ingredients. It fell into the 'meh' trap: the food was certainly good, but not so good that I'd go there again at that price point.
84. Saturday, May 16 -
Zenith - M and I took a tour of the
Fisher Building in Detroit. After the tour we had lunch at this quirky Mexican place in the lobby filled with retro antiques. We both really liked it, but apparently it's closed now.
85. Saturday, May 16 -
Small Plates - This tapas-esque place was near our hotel room. It wasn't bad, but it was nothing special either.
86. Saturday, May 16 - some random sports bar - After dinner we walked around looking for a bar that wasn't too loud or too crowded. We found an almost empty place near the hotel which was so nondescript that we never did figure out its name. Oh well.
87. Sunday, May 17 -
Aloft Detroit - We had a nice little breakfast at the hotel.
88. Sunday, May 17 -
Bagger Daves - On the way home we had dinner at the Woodhaven location of this burger & beer chain. The burger was solid, and M said the beer was good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, but it's a solid choice while traveling.
