New Radio Project

So I'm still doing radio on Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm (EST). My current show is called Delirium Without Walls and features my friend Colleen as a co-host. You can download the show as a MP3 if you like.

I have a number of techniques for keeping myself interested in the show. Most importantly, having an awesome co-host with great taste in music is a major advantage: I have to bring my 'A' game or I'll let the side down. I also do the concert calendar in part to give me an excuse to play something from a steady supply of new and old bands. I spent a lot of time filing CDs at the station on to the new shelf, which lets me see all sorts of interesting new music.

Now, I'm adding a new method. Some years ago during our telethon I got a copy of the 2001 edition of the Rolling Stone Rock & Roll Encyclopedia. I haven't done much with it since I got it, but last week I had an epiphany and plopped it on to the dining room table. My project for the foreseeable future is to read it from Abba to ZZ Top. Every time I encounter an artist I haven't heard of I'll try to play them on my next show. My goal is to read enough to have three new artists per show. My first three were last Sunday and were: Ace, Johnny Ace and ABC. I had to dig into the vinyl for all three, so that's a plus. I wonder how long it will take to run into a band I haven't heard of that the station doesn't have.
