It occurs to me that this is the 20th year I've been eligible to vote for President. Let's see the past list:
1996 - Absentee Ballot in North Dakota.
Primary: Didn't Vote.
General: Bill Clinton / Al Gore.
I occasionally regret this one. In many ways Bob Dole would have been a more ethical president, and in hindsight Clinton's record on welfare and other things is dubious at best. Still, not a terrible pick.
2000 - Absentee Ballot in North Dakota.
Primary: Didn't Vote.
General: Ralph Nader.
Yes, I voted for Nader, and Democrat Al Gore lost. I don't feel guilty though, as North Dakota went for George W. Bush in a landslide as predicted. The last time
a Democrat won North Dakota was the LBJ landslide over Goldwater in 1964. Before that you have to go back to FDR's first two elections. In short, I tried to push Nader to 5% for matching funding because my blue vote in North Dakota wasn't going to matter.
2004 - Voting in person in Ohio.
Primary: John Edwards.
General: John Kerry / John Edwards.
Edwards seemed decent in the primary; this was before the part where he cheated on his dying wife with a staffer came out. In the general election, well, I believe that if I live to be 120 George W. Bush will probably remain the worst president of my lifetime. Man, I hope so.
2008 - Voting in person in Ohio.
Primary: Barack Obama.
General: Barack Obama / Joe Biden.
Despite my initial confusion about
Obama's popularity and my late concern about the polls lying, he
won.
2012 - Voting in person in Ohio.
Primary: Barack Obama.
General: Barack Obama / Joe Biden.
I'm not convinced Obama was a great president, but he is far better than every alternative.
2016 - Voting in person in Ohio.
Primary: Bernie Sanders
General: It'll probably be Hilary Clinton unless Sanders somehow wins the nomination, which seems unlikely as of this writing. I can live with that.
I'd rather have had Elizabeth Warren, frankly.
