Last 1/3 of 2016 Concert Calendar

Aug 30, 2016 23:42

I went an entire summer since my last concert calendar. I made it to eleven shows this summer; ten summarized here, plus one more last night:

11. Def Leppard w/REO Speedwagon @ Blossom. I went with four of my friends. We opted to get dinner, and thereby missed Tesla. Sacrifices have to be made sometimes.

I probably missed some good shows this summer due to the long gap between concert calendars. Let's try to avoid that fate in the remaining 1/3 of the year with a brand new shiny concert calendar. Bold means it's virtually certain I'll attend, italics means I'm more than usually interested.

September
R 9/01 - Elvis Depressedly @ Mahalls. I mean, with a name like that!
Su 9/04 - Uncle Earl @ Music Box Concert Hall. Old-timey.
T 9/06 - AC/DC w/Axl Rose @ The Q. I mean, GNR was so good.
F 9/09 - Slayer @ Nautica. Stay metal, stay cool.
S 9/10 - WRUW's annual concert Studio-A-Rama, featuring headliners Eternal Summers and New Salem Witch Hunters, plus many local openers. I'll be there in my traditional grab.
T 9/13 - Guitar Wolf @ Grog Shop. Japanese rock. I never thought I'd get to see them!
T 9/13 - Matthew Sweet @ Music Box Concert Hall. Listed for M.
S 9/17 - Barrence Whitfield & the Savages @ Beachland Tavern. Soul.
R 9/22 - The Toasters @ The Foundry. 2nd wave ska who never stopped.
R 9/22 - Diego Figueiredo @ Nighttown. Brazilian jazz guitar.
F 9/23 - Nada Surf @ Beachland Ballroom. Featuring Clevelander Doug Gillard.
S 9/24 - AJJ @ Grog Shop. Formerly Andrew Jackson Jihad.
S 9/24 - Dokken @ Rocksino. Was just discussing them recently.
S 9/24 - New Salem Witch Hunters @ Happy Dog. If you can't make it to Studio-A-Rama, you can catch them here.
Su 9/25 - Car Seat Headrest @ Rock Hall. Terrible name, good music.
T 9/27 - Tacocat @ Mahalls. Former Studio-A headliner.
F 9/30 - Nikki Hill @ Music Box Supper Club. She's very good, if you like soul.

October
S 10/01 - Tom Jones @ Rocksino. Listed for CG.
S 10/01 - Kanye @ The Q. Listed for M.
Su 10/02 - Ramblin' Jack Elliot @ Beachland Ballroom. Folk storyteller. Very much my father's kind of thing.
T 10/04 - Josh Ritter @ Kent Stage. My 2012 show of the year.
T 10/04 - The Suffers @ Rock Hall. Gulf coast soul.
R 10/06 - Slaid Cleaves @ Beachland Ballroom. Austin-based singer-songwriter. I've seen him twice and enjoy his stuff.
S 10/08 - Grandmaster Flash @ Musica. Apparently not a mistake...
Su 10/09 - Gabriel Alegria & Afro Peruvian Sextet @ Nighttown. At least one fun album.
T 10/11 - The Upper Crust @ Beachland Tavern. A very long time ago these guys headlined Studio-A-Rama, and I was responsible for delivering a case of Heineken and a bottle of whiskey to their room. Then they dressed up as French aristocrats and rocked out. No joke.
T 10/18 - The Dillinger Escape Plan @ House of Blues. Mathcore.
W 10/19 - John Mellencamp @ Akron Civic. I'm actually pretty sorely tempted.
W 10/19 - Lee Harvey Osmond @ Beachland Tavern. Acid folk. Produced by members of the Cowboy Junkies. Lead singer is member of Blackie & the Rodeo Kings.
10/19 through 10/23 - CityMusic Cleveland at various venues with Sayaka Shoji.
R 10/20 - Teenage Fanclub @ Beachland Ballroom. Brandt is super excited about this.
F 10/21 - Mr. Gnome @ Beachland Ballroom. Locals. Rocking.
S 10/22 - Deerhunter @ Musica. Fun weird rock.
Su 10/23 - Kelsey Waldon @ Beachland Tavern. Young Nashville-based singer-songwriter.
Su 10/23 - Esperanza Spalding @ Kent Stage. Alas, I'm flying back that day.
R 10/27 - Amy Rigby @ Beachland Tavern. Her show in my living room was cancelled, but I bet this one won't be.
F 10/28 - Elvis Costello & The Impostors - He's one for the bucket list as well.
S 10/29 - MC Chris w/MC Lars @ Grog Shop. Can I blame aiela for this? Probably...

November
T 11/01 - Rusted Root @ HOB. A seminal concert for me.
W 11/02 - The Jayhawks @ Kent Stage. I love them because of appearances on Live at the World Cafe.
R 11/03 - Screeching Weasel @ Agora Theatre. Punk. Whatever that means now.
F 11/11 - Henry Rollins @ Cleveland Masonic (sponsored Grog). Spoken word.
S 11/12 - Rufus Wainwright @ Music Box Concert Hall. Bizarre and entertaining the one time I saw him. Recently did an album of sonnets. With Bill Shatner, no less.
F 11/18 - Thee Oh Sees @ Beachland Ballroom. My old co-host Shari loved them for a while. My current co-host Colleen likes them too. I think they rock pretty hard.
Su 11/20 - War @ Kent Stage. Low Rider is the famous cut, but they have a lot more.
T 11/22 - The Dickies w/The Queers @ Grog Shop. Funny punk.
Su 11/27 - King Khan & The BBQ Show @ Beachland Ballroom. He was great last year, and it's right on my birthday weekend!

December
F 12/02 - Bad Luck Jonathan @ Beachland Tavern. Featuring Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers, Bloodshot everything).
Su 12/04 - Alan Cummings @ Playhouse Square. The Emcee. Nightcrawler. Singer of sappy songs. There are cheap-o $10 seats.
Su 12/11 - Straight No Chaser @ Playhouse Square. A cappella.
12/07 through 12/11 - CityMusic Cleveland at various venues.
