Eating Out Seventeen - Thanksgiving Travels

Feb 19, 2017 22:13

For the weekend prior to Thanksgiving 2015, my sister ran the Philadelphia Marathon. I didn't run anywhere but we did meet some of our Philadelphia friends. Then we took the train to New York City to meet our parents. We stayed in Manhattan, did Thanksgiving at our uncle's, and generally had a fine time. Here's where we ate.

282. Friday, November 20 - China House - I'd emptied out my fridge so I got takeout with my team at work. Well, at this point it was my old team.

283. Friday, November 20 - JD McGillicuddy's - I flew into Philadelphia, where I stayed with Joe in the suburbs. We got drinks and food.

284. Saturday November 21 - Sweetie Greens - I think we went to the Ardmore location of this chain salad place. Honestly, I don't remember.

285. Saturday November 21 - Chinese takeout - We had Chinese takeout for dinner, or so my notes say.

286. Sunday, November 22 - Llenarch Diner - It seems like I always go to the Llenarch Diner when I'm in Philly. This time, it was with Joe & Mike.

287. Sunday, November 22 - Township Line Pizza - Mike's favorite pizza place, or so I recall.

288. Monday, November 23 - Federal Donuts I'm a big fan of Michael Solomonov. I use his hummus recipe. tigerlily_blue and I tried out his donut shop before catching our train. Two thumbs up! Counted as a chain since there are multiple locations.

289. Monday, November 23 - Dizengoff - Then we went across the street to Solomonov's low budget middle eastern restaurant and enjoyed a full lunch there.

290. Monday, November 23 - Ali Baba - We got Turkish food in Manhattan.

291. Tuesday, November 24 - De Rosina's - We (meaning my sister, her boyfriend, my parents and I) got dinner at a serviceable Italian place in the theater district.

292. Wednesday, November 25 - Vatan - After tigerlily_blue and her boyfriend split off on their own, my parents and I more or less randomly picked this Indian restaurant. It was completely vegetarian, and more interestingly you had no choice but to order the tasting menu. We really enjoyed it; the food was less stereotypical curry shop and closer to authentic "what you'd get in India." Try it out if you're in Manhattan.

293. Friday, November 27 - Marseille - This French place was on west of the theater district near the river. We went there after doing a harbor cruise, picking it with the time honored "we're hungry and this looks interesting." It was fine.

294. Friday, November 27 - Sullivan Street Bakery - My mother has a cookbook from the Sullivan Street Bakery, and when we're in Manhattan we try to go to there at least once. This is our usual location; they have 2 or 3 so this counts as a chain.

295. Friday, November 27 - Public House - Jimi came into the city and he and my sister and I got a burger and a beer together.

296. Saturday, November 28 - Maha's Falafel - I flew back to Cleveland on Saturday morning. This is a counter stand inside the West Side Market that sells the best falafel I've ever had. I'm not unique in that view either. I know several seasoned middle eastern travelers who say they've never had better, which is perhaps not surprising given the extensive Lebanese community here in Cleveland.
