Goals 2018

Last year's resolutions are summarized, so it's time to create some new ones for 2018. This year I've got four.

1. Stay Smaller

Last year I went from 232 to 206. Dieting is easy. Sustaining weight loss in the long term is harder, and although I've kept it off since August, five months isn't very much in the big scheme of things. This means that I'm doing all the same things I did in 2017 again this year. Notably this means that I will only eat food at work that I bring with me, barring nine cheat days, which I've already designated at work. Any time I break this, I'll donate $25 to charity.

To put a number on it, my goal is to end the year at no more than 210 pounds, and preferably less, so that when I renew my driver's license in November my official records will show me at a lot less than the 225 it lists me at now.

2. Declutter House

When you switch apartments every year or second year, you have a built in excuse to get rid of stuff. When you live in the same house for ten years, it gets harder. This didn't go great in 2016, but it's time to try it again. I need to specifically hit this list of areas:

- bookshelves
- graphic novels
- CDs
- kitchenware
- garage
- china cabinet / built ins
- clothes
- upstairs closets
- file cabinet

If I cross off one per month I'll be in good shape. I've said that before though.

3. Commit Not Particularly Random Acts of Communicative Kindness

In 2016 I sent birthday cards to everyone I know. This went really well, but it also cost a small fortune in cards and postage. I have come up with a clever workaround for this problem that should cut costs from $800+ to less than $100 while providing two people with artistic outlets. The first cards are already away!

4. Build the Bucket List

With the end of the stadium tour, I need a new excuse to travel. I have a long list of things I've thought about doing, but aside from visiting all the states I haven't really codified them. Since I earn another  sabbatical in 2019, this is a good time to think about kind of things I want to do next.

resolution made, bucket list
