Last
January there was a hole in my house that allowed squirrels to enter the covered porch. One exterminator later
five squirrels had been removed and the whole was closed.
Then this past December M saw a squirrel disappear into the house. Closer examination revealed a new hole within a few feet of the previous hole. The exterminators were called again. This time the traps caught six squirrels before the hole was closed. Unfortunately, some truly frigid weather descended before the damage around the hole could be dealt with fully, so there's still some pending work remaining. Similarly, the tree guy I called to trim back the trees near that part of the house hasn't been able to get out yet either. On the plus side, I don't actually have to pay either vendor until the work is done.
I have no idea why my house has become an attractive destination for squirrels the last two years, but I hope that the combination of removing a bunch of them, sealing the hole and repairing the related damage and trimming back the trees a substantial amount keeps it from recurring for a while.
