1. My fraternity brother Neal drove up from his home in southern Ohio. He and I and M went out for dinner at Deagan's with a bunch of other PhiKaps and significant others, including Davey & Noelle, John & Danita, Ken, Nate and Kate. Steve joined us later in the evening. We had the weird realization that fully 6 of the 11 attendees were current or former coworkers of mine at my day job.
2. Neal was in town because he and I were driving to Joe's Super Bowl party in Philadelphia. I hadn't been planning to fly to Philadelphia as I have the last
six years because of I am spending a bunch of other money on travel in the near future, but when Neal told me he was driving that changed the calculus. We woke up Saturday morning and drove to Philadelphia. The party that night was at Mike and Meredith's house. Joe & Kristen, Jimi, Matt & Christy, Brad & Becky, Wayne & Jen and assorted kids (six in total) hung out and ate pizza and played games and chatted.
3. Sunday, Neal & I and Mike's family got breakfast at the Springfield Diner. Then we played two rounds of
Carcassonne (I won the second) and one of
Pandemic (we failed to save the world due to running out of time). Then we headed over to Joe's for the game. In addition to most of the people from Saturday night (minus Matt & Christy) we were joined by Helene, Nick and his gf, Andrew and assorted non-college/non-Phikap friends of Joe's. The Eagles won, which made Mike (a lifetime Eagles fan) very happy.
Media Consumed:
With all the travel and chatting, not much. I did actually watch most of
the big game. I also read the shorty story
Vilcabamba by Harry Turtledove online.
