I'm writing this on Thursday, which is the latest one of these
last weekend posts has gone up, and I already can't remember all the details of what I did on Friday night. Sometimes I have to wonder what the point of life is if you can't remember 90% of it a week later. Anyway, most of my weekend revolved around
telethon, which went very well for my radio station as we exceeded our ambitious goal by a fair margin to set an all-time record for donations pledged.
1. On Friday night M and I did something for dinner that I can no longer recall, and then I headed down to the radio station to do two hours of telethon data entry. Clearly, I'm a wild man.
2. On Saturday, M and I slept in enough that I missed CrossFit for the third Saturday in a row. After running errands, I did another 2.5 hours of telethon data entry.
For our evening entertainment, M and I went and saw
Isle of Dogs. M generally enjoys
Wes Anderson films, and I generally don't, but we were united in our opinion that this particular Wes Anderson film wasn't very good. The animation didn't stand out, the story was kind of average, and the energy levels didn't rise during climatic sequences. I can't recommend it.
Saturday afternoon I also read a new book by
Lois McMaster Bujold, who is one of my very favorite authors. She's been publishing her Penric novellas as ebooks, but they finally came out as 'real' books, so I got the first one, "Penric's Demon" from the library. Penric is set in the The World of the Five Gods introduced by
The Curse of Chalion. As a novella, it was only 160 pages with large font so I flew through it. I enjoyed it, and have the next two (of six total, so far) waiting on hold. When they issue a collected edition, I'll surely buy it. If you've read Bujold, and particular the other Five Gods novels, you won't want to miss it. If you've not read Bujold, start with The Curse of Chalion first if you want to try out her fantasy.
3. Sunday morning was, you guessed it, more telethon data entry. I knocked out two hours of data entry, then prepped for my own show, did my show, and did another 30 minutes of data entry before heading home. My parents stopped at my house en route from North Dakota to visiting family. I made an appetizer and a heavy salad course, then prepped a dessert for Monday night.
4. I took Monday off as my parents hung around Cleveland. We met our cousins in Beachwood for breakfast at
Jack's, where I had corn beef hash. Then we went to their house for dessert and tea.
After a very relaxed afternoon around the house (interrupted by one trip to work that I couldn't get out of on short notice), M joined us for dinner. My father requested pizza, so we went to
Angelos. That dessert I'd prepped was a frozen mango lassi pie on a graham cracker crust, which we all enjoyed.
