As part of my
ongoing resolution to generate ideas of what I'd like to do, here's a list of musicians I'd like to see live at some point. I've long had a "
top 3" list, so consider this more of an outgrowth of that effort than something new. I've tried to limit this to the highest priority musicians, since the list of people I want to see is effectively infinite.
First, the people from my most recent Top 3.
[1] Tom Waits
[2] Stevie Wonder
[3] William Bell
And then others of ongoing fascination, unranked.
Mavis Staples
Cassandra Wilson (has booked one Cleveland show in 18 years, which was cancelled)
Jackson Browne (who I keep screwing up seeing)
And beyond that... not a whole bunch that I can recall as I write this. I'm dead certain that I'm forgetting someone (more likely many someones) who I'll need to add in later, but on the whole one good thing about my current lifestyle is that I can afford most things I want to see. Sure, there are a few musicians like Kurt Elling that have been on my list for a while, but mostly when they've come to town I've consciously chosen not to see them for whatever reason, so putting them on my bucket list seems inappropriate.
And finally, not a band but in the "so unlikely that I'm not sure why I mention it" category, I'd love to go to the last night of the
Proms. For that I'll even wear a ridiculous hat, but tickets require prebooking something like six shows in London, which seems difficult.
The Proms being at Royal Albert Hall made me think briefly about adding some specific venues (Madison Square Garden comes to mind), but mostly that's not something I think about in the way I did for
baseball.
