On Friday afternoon, Adam and I left
Havasu Falls. It's a long drive Havasu back to Adam's home base in Las Vegas, so after two hours we stopped in Kingman, AZ for lunch at
Sirens, which Adam knew about from a prior visit. I had a really good chicken curry sandwich, almost as good as the one I had in
Europe on the Tour.
From there we had to pass
Hoover Dam to get back so Adam stopped and we walked over the dam. The water level has dropped significantly in recent years, reaching an all-time low in 2016 that was only 20 feet above the minimum needed for power generation. This very visible when you look at the water lines on the back of the dam.
We got back to Adam's house and cleaned up. There's nothing quite like the feeling of a shower and a shave after several days of being outside. I met Adam's wife, Carrie, who had been asleep when I arrived on Monday and had left for work before I work up on Tuesday. I took them out to dinner at an upscale Italian place near their house called
Mastrionis. I personally had a very nice cioppino that was well worth the price.
I flew home Saturday morning. I finished
Salvage the Bones by
Jesmyn Ward on the plane. I thought it was excellent, even better than her
Sing, Unburied, Sing, which I read in Colorado a few weeks ago. I highly recommend her.
M was in Columbus when I returned. I did the usual things that pile up when you're out of town, picked up Tulip Sunday morning, and generally had a calm, low key weekend. My radio show was
all over the place;
Camille Yarbrough was a random discovery in the vinyl, and was excellent.
